GALLEGO, JOSEPH SHALOM

GALLEGO, JOSEPH SHALOM: GALLEGO, JOSEPH SHALOM (d. 1624), Hebrew poet. Originating in Salonika, Gallego was for 14 years ḥazzan in Amsterdam. He later migrated to Ereẓ Israel. His "Imrei No'am" (Amsterdam, 1628) is a collection of devotional poems for the festivals, fast days, weddings, and circumcisions. The Spanish songs according to whose tune they were to be sung are generally indicated. Some of the poems are by Gallego; other poems of his are included in the collection Kol Tefillah ve-Kol Zimrah by david franco-mendes (Ms.).
